Could you do some star trek dividers? Ones based on the og series if that's okay!
Hey anon! My Star Trek knowledge is very minimal so I hope these still work? Based on what I was researching they seemed right at least. 💗 Thank you for the request!🩵🌸

So my parents and I are watching through the original Star Trek and there's been a string of Doctor Who-esque episodes and I am devastated that there has never been an official crossover between the two longest standing science fiction shows in history. I mean, for crying out loud, the crew keeps time traveling, they find weird portals through space/time, they found an ALTERNATE REALITY and plugged the hole between their universe and that one and I'm still not over Spock mind-melding with an acid rock monster just to discover it was protecting its family not actually murdering people for funsies. My parents have started saying 'maybe they'll meet the Doctor in this one'. why could it never be.

On a non-Stargate note… is all of Star Trek so fraught with innuendo and sexual situations? Or is it just the first 10 or so episodes of OG Star Trek that I’ve watched so far?
I just felt like you would all know the answer. To be clear, I’m a completionist. The answer won’t affect my decision to watch it.

Song of the Day #6:
'Keeping Secrets' by Rebecca Romijin, Tom Polce, and Kay Hanley.
youtube
No one can keep you small
Be bulletproof and ten feet tall
An island
Track 6 of 'Subspace Rhapsody', the Musical episode of 'Strange New Worlds'.
Fun fact: In the original series, there is an episode (made famous by the first interracial kiss on television, which William Shatner encouraged by refusing to cooperate with the directors, who wanted to film a version with the kiss, and a version without), called 'Plato's Stepchildren' (1968). In the episode, our favourite characters are forced into actions by people with psionic abilities, including Spock being forced to sing 'Maiden Wine' (which Leonard Nimoy actually composed himself!). (Semi related: 'Maiden Wine' always makes me think of 'Summer Wine' by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood, which deserves its own post.) This episode is the only other time Spock has sung in the show, and 'Subspace Rhapsody' is the first fully musical episode of Star Trek since its first airing in 1966.
Personal blurb: Look, I'm going to be honest. If I meet you in a corner of a bookshop and we start geeking out about musicals, this isn't the first, second, or seventeenth one that I'll bring up. The lyrics are not necessarily my preferred flavour (and there are some that I viscerally disagree with). That being said, I find the melodies exciting and invigorating enough that it's worth a listen to (or multiple listens to) on the road from one side of the country to the other. I feel the same way about 'The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical'. They are both fun, sweet, and simple. I have never actually watched the Star Trek episode (nor the Bridgerton show). Someone with whom I worked at the Renaissance Faire introduced it to me and I really liked the sound. I get the specific lyrics I shared here stuck in my head on a regular basis, including today, so now you can suffer with me.

My mom (who grew up with Jaws and vehemently hates sharks and thinks they're evil) found out about my love for sharks after we both watched a shark documentary. My life has been filled with interactions like this ever since...
I've started to win her over with nurse sharks and wobbegongs though, so don't worry boss I'll keep working at it 👍
This is the song I sent btw

Apparently, back in the day, there was a really notorious tie in novel for Star Trek that had a lot of slash elements called Killing Time
The slash elements were requested to be removed by Paramount, and they were, BUT due to a mistake, the original was sent to print without the edits
When it was caught, they’d printed 250k of this “first edition” which subsequently became collectors items for Kirk/Spock fans, since later editions DID include the edits censoring the slash
NOW, I bring this up because my friend who’s into the original Star Trek found and was reading the first edition at the desk at the library we work at, cause we’re slow on weekends and we’re the only ones here. She laughs at it, so I ask and she tells me about the general backstory of the book, and that she laughed because (among other things) Kirk, who doesn’t get mad in the og series really, was being described as hot headed and apparently just getting into fights left and right
So I’m looking over her shoulder at the scene, commenting on the character changes that resemble modern fic-degradation of characterization for the sake of a shipping dynamic, when I realize something
Now, my only interaction with the Star Trek series directly was the 2009 reboot, and my friends hasn’t seen those and is only interested in the originals. As I’m looking at this scene, and my friend is pointing out the character changes to Kirk, I realize that this is the fucking premise of the reboot, down to the fucking alternative timeline shenanigans, the rank swap, and Kirk being a hotheaded fuck up
The 2009 film was literally based on this slash fiction misprint they tried to bury!
Im reeling.
I can’t be the only one who made this connection.
So I google to see if anyone else has, and oh yes, good, there was someone
The fucking author of Killing Time
…I feel like I’ve uncovered a conspiracy. I’ve still got 3 hours left in my shift and I can’t focus. The world must know.

No no, I get this, I’ve done the same thing, ever been in one of those huge-ass office complexes that’s gone out of business before anyone ever moved in, it just sits there empty, the atmosphere vibrates with disappointed anticipation, like it has ghosts of office workers who never were there
but yeah, it’s fascinating
